Definition:
As its name suggests, life processes are those processes which are necessary for the continuity of life of living organisms
Features :
- Essential for the survival of living organisms.
- Life processes help in giving responses to the environment.
- All these life processes are performed by organisms to obtain energy from food
- Every life process is interrelated to each other.
There are seven basic life processes necessary for the survival of living organisms. Any interruption in these life processes will lead to loss of life or sickness. These are as follows :
Types of life processes
1.Movement
2.Respiration
3.Sensitivity
4.Growth
5.Reproduction
6.Excretion
7.Nutrition
These seven life processes are the basis by which we can differentiate between living & non-living organisms
Living Organisms Non-Living Organisms
- Living organisms can move Non-Living organisms cannot
- Living organisms can breathe Non-Living organisms cannot
- Living organisms can grow Non-Living organisms cannot
- Living organisms can excrete Non-Living organisms cannot
- Living organisms can eat food Non-Living organisms cannot
- Living organisms can reproduce Non-Living organisms cannot
- Living organisms can sense Non-Living organisms cannot
